Event Description

Thomas Allen Harris invites local residents to join the DIGITAL DIASPORA FAMILY REUNION where people can share their African American Photo Albums and the stories of their families - past and present. All are welcome to join this multimedia community.

The DIGITAL DIASPORA FAMILY REUNION ‘ROADSHOW’ will be in Boston this August 25th through 28th as part of the National Association of Media Arts Centers (http://www.namac.org) biennial conference.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 27th, 8:00pm – Thomas Allen Harris will lead a special presentation that is free and open to the public. Mr. Harris will present “A Fresh Look at African American Photo Archives” where, over the course of the evening, the audience will learn more about the latest in Web 2.0/interactive tools and properly caring for their family photographic archives to preserve them as well as their family histories. The creative use of the archive will be fore grounded as Mr. Harris discusses how his novel approach to digital archives is shaping his new film about black photography entitled, THROUGH A LENS DARKLY. He will also screen clips of his award-winning films THAT’S MY FACE and TWELVE DISCIPLES OF NELSON MANDELA – both inspired by his own family archives and history.

The event will take place at the Bill Bordy Theater, Emerson College, 216 Tremont Street, Boston, MA 02116-4624.
