Filmaka.com just posted their next contest! They're looking for
pitches for a web series about people and their cars. You submit a
detailed written synopsis of a film 3 to 5 minutes in length, with 4
or 5 more episode ideas intended to total around 30 minutes of
original webisodic content. Finalists receive $5000 each. General
Motors is sponsoring the contest and if they decide to produce final
pitches, they will fund the production. Filmaka.com will start
accepting submissions in the middle of next week and the contest
closes March 11. Details at: http://www.filmaka.com/gm/

Thanks for the enthusiasm. I've got another 3 or 4 months of filmng ahead of me, while trying to get enough funding to take me through post-production. By the way, I definitely think it's a great idea to volunteer to help someone locally on their film and work your butt off. It's a good way to see how to get things done, and NOT get things done!

Profile Information

City:
Nashville, TN
Filmmaker? Genres you work in:
documentary, narrative, educational
About Me:
I am currently going to school at Middle Tennessee State University. I'm working on an Electronic Media Production degree. When I graduate I plan on moving to Los Angeles and work on getting my career started. If I could somehow afford it, I would love to go to UCLA film school, but we'll see how that works out.
I love to write movies and I would want to get into the major motion picture scene, however, I still have a strong passion for independent documentaries. I would love to be given the chance to travel around the world shooting all of the unknown.
I consider myself a better editor than videographer. I edit on Final Cut Pro 6 and I love it. I know many people who use Avid and are very happy with it, but I'm a full supporter of Final Cut.
Current filmmaking concerns:
I looking for someone to give me a chance to be an apprentice and learn the tricks of the trade.
About my films:
I am still a young and inexperienced filmmaker. Right now the only work that I have had a chance to do is the stuff that is part of my school curriculum. I have a few short films that I will be shooting this summer for a local film festival and hopefully I will get noticed for my talents.
I have many ideas for documentaries that I would like to, one day, produce. However, right now they are all far away from any kind of budget that I, or anyone I know, could afford.
Books I'm reading:
Right now I am reading a book that I happened to come across by chance and bought it randomly. "Guns, Germs, and Steel -- The Fate of Human Societies" is a book by Jared Diamond, a professor of geography at UCLA. It is a very interesting look at how civilizations came to be the way they are today.
Films I love (or can't wait to see):
There are so many, and for so many reasons.
Television --the papers say its the golden age- you agree (or you don't!) because you watch.....
I wish television could be saved. But I think that it is beyond saving. I think the only way to watch quality television, is if you can afford to pay for certain specialty channels like National Geographic, Sundance Channel, etc.
