Filmaka.com just posted their next contest! They're looking for
pitches for a web series about people and their cars. You submit a
detailed written synopsis of a film 3 to 5 minutes in length, with 4
or 5 more episode ideas intended to total around 30 minutes of
original webisodic content. Finalists receive $5000 each. General
Motors is sponsoring the contest and if they decide to produce final
pitches, they will fund the production. Filmaka.com will start
accepting submissions in the middle of next week and the contest
closes March 11. Details at: http://www.filmaka.com/gm/

Profile Information

City:
Kingston
Filmmaker? Genres you work in:
documentary, narrative
About Me:
I am a film student at the University of Rhode Island. I like to make films and experiment with stuff. I am usually open to new stuff and and always writing one or more scripts (or pieces of scripts). If you've got any ideas you want to discuss, feel free.
Website:

Current filmmaking concerns:
Films that make it to theaters usually suck (not always) and usually prioritize $$$ over the value of film. I realize that filmmaking is a business, however that doesn't mean that money should be the only goal. To use an analogy, yes the public loves eating junk food: chips, candy, fast food, etc. However, if that was all that every store sold, what would happen?
About my films:
No budget, non-actors, and poor audio. My films don't always come out quite how I'd pictured them, but I'm working on it!
I usually shoot on my terrible old Sony Handicam and edit with Avid (thanks to placing as a finalist in an Avid contest). :)
Books I'm reading:
Count of Monte Cristo, How I Became Stupid, Dogwalker, People of Paper, Siddhartha.
Films I love (or can't wait to see):
Tim Burton's stuff (his good stuff is great his bad stuff is horrible), The Illusionist, The Number 23, Chasing Amy, The Big Lebowski, anything Film Noir especially Double Indemnity.
Television --the papers say its the golden age- you agree (or you don't!) because you watch.....
Lost, Battlestar Galactica, Seinfeld, ATHF, The (British) Office

Current Happening (more to organize myself than entertain others)

Midway through the second week of August. Sideways and I are working on writing, hopefully to finish this week. Then we'll compare, contrast, and combine over the weekend. Hopefully next week we can scout out locations and contact actors and be ready to film the week after that.

I'd like to have this film done (or at least ready to edit) before school starts again in September.

Will update with new happenings.
