About Me:
I'm making a doc film about modern-day Jewish prisoners, "American Prison: The Forgotten Jews." Sometimes I love making this film, and sometimes I just want to bang my head against the wall, because it feels so good to stop. I also run a group for local doc filmmakers called Connect the Docs that meets monthly at the Coolidge. The purpose of the group is to make connections, and share news, resources and information and to exchange ideas. It's a great group and new members are welcome. E-mail me if you want more info.

Congratulations to Melanie Perkins For Her Film's Emmy Win!

Just read that Melanie's film, "Have You Seen Andy?" won the award in the Investigative Journalism category. Fantastic! I saw the rough cut at Filmmakers Workshop a few years ago and really liked it. A terrific personal doc.

CALL FOR ACTION! YOU CAN HELP WITH LITTLE EFFORT! ANDREW BERENDS AND HIS TRANSLATOR STILL DETAINED IN NIGERIA!

Dear Filmmaker Friends,

I urge you to call your local Congressional Representative and John
Kerry & Ted Kennedy's office (Ted is probably out of commission,
though, but maybe a high level staff person will be responsive), to
urge them to put pressure on our State Dept. and on the Nigerian
Gov't. to immediately release documentary filmmaker, Andrew Berends and his translator, George
Samuels.

They are still falsely being charged with espionage and are
experiencing harsh conditions while b

My daughter is returning home on August 13th after being away for the summer. Will there be another opportunity to see a rough cut? I'd love to see it.

Chico- I'll e-mail you more at your line-back e-mail address. I really want to see your film. The subject matter is really interesting to me. My daughter is returning from being away for the summer, on August 13th, but Susi e-mailed me that there will be other opportunities to see your rough cut. (I hope.) I'd love for you to come to Connect the Docs meetings. First meeting after summer break will be Sept. 7th. This Google Calendar has a weird time, but it will be at 7 PM. I'll put you in my database. I'm going to now brag, because I feel like a proud mother. Three doc films made by Connect the Docs members have been accepted into this year's IFP Film Independent Week. Your heritage is extremely interesting, btw. Thanks for your good wishes about funding. I'll e-mail you more tomorrow.

hi rhonda,

just came from opening night for the rox fest at the coolidge... i love what lisa simmons and the tcof/act rox are doing to support local filmmakers.

i am also of jewish descent (non practicing) -- still, when i go to temple even the most liberal of the crowd take notice. while my film doesn't focus on this aspect of my heritage, i do point to the fact that my mother is a german-jew, who met married my father, an african-american from the segregated south... in 1960 -- that's pre the u.s. supreme court case "loving v. virginia."

all that to say.... i'm interested in the "connect the docs" monthly meetings. please keep me posted and best of luck with the funding.

Filmaka.com just posted their next contest! They're looking for
pitches for a web series about people and their cars. You submit a
detailed written synopsis of a film 3 to 5 minutes in length, with 4
or 5 more episode ideas intended to total around 30 minutes of
original webisodic content. Finalists receive $5000 each. General
Motors is sponsoring the contest and if they decide to produce final
pitches, they will fund the production. Filmaka.com will start
accepting submissions in the middle of next week and the contest
closes March 11. Details at: http://www.filmaka.com/gm/

Hi Rhonda,

I'd love to join Connect the Docs program! What should I do to join? By the way, in spite of the head banging, your film sounds fascinating. Would love to talk with you more about it . . . .Michelle
