Michelle -
This is fantastic! I have forwarded your email to those in LA and hope they will attend. The link you list is missing ".com" which is easy to figure out (for me anyway) but the embedded trailer only plays for a second or two then stops. The news coverage however plays well.
I wish you great success with the fundraiser and the docu - it is so well deserved! If you do this in NYC, I am SO there!

Okay I'm gonna post an announcement to Doculink. Are you on that email list? If not, you should join. It's a lot of emails, but it's a great resource.

Also, as far as what I've been up to, I started a new blog to research the documentary idea I told you about. Hope you get to read it at some point!

Michelle - On the contrary, my mom would greatly approve. She would always give me the warning, knowing full well I would disobey and find very interesting people no matter where we went. Plus, she'd always know where to find me - sitting down with unknowns, chatting like I was family!
LOL - sometimes our vocation calls to us from an early age - secret is to listen!

Filmaka.com just posted their next contest! They're looking for
pitches for a web series about people and their cars. You submit a
detailed written synopsis of a film 3 to 5 minutes in length, with 4
or 5 more episode ideas intended to total around 30 minutes of
original webisodic content. Finalists receive $5000 each. General
Motors is sponsoring the contest and if they decide to produce final
pitches, they will fund the production. Filmaka.com will start
accepting submissions in the middle of next week and the contest
closes March 11. Details at: http://www.filmaka.com/gm/

Thanks! Def still in production, although I am starting to see the light at the end of the completion tunnel, which will be so satisfying and so sad too. Will be sure to look you up when I'm next in LA. And best of luck on your project, I'll keep an eye out.

Wow congratulations!!! You finished a trailer for your project already? Does that mean it's close to completion? Anyway have a blast at Sundance. I'm sooo jealous. Whoa I'm also bombarding your page with my comments :) Hope that's all right. Anyway, yeah let me know when you're in LA and wanna interview.

Aw you were just in LA? Too bad I missed ya. Yeah it seems rough out here. I have a hard enough time just keeping in touch with friends, much less potential partners. For me, it's the traffic that keeps me from going out a lot, and also everyone seems so caught up with their own busy lives. Plus everything in LA is more expensive. In the Bay Area, it didn't seem as difficult to see someone regularly.

Oh yeah will interracial relationships be a part of your story at all? If so, I'd love to offer some insight :)

About Me:
I started making the documentary I'm working on because it's a topic that I've been fascinated with for the past five years or so. I've been noticing that it's been gaining a lot of momentum in the media, and I felt compelled to tell the big-picture story. I never planned on trying my hand at filmmaking, and am eager/freaked/excited/frustrated. I'm also a mom, a journalist, a lover of great fiction and crappy TV.

Current filmmaking concerns:
Since this is my first time, pretty much everything is a concern, although the learning curve has been enormous. Fundraising definitely feels the most overwhelming.
About my films:
My professional background is in publishing, from books to articles to websites. I've been writing and editing for 15 years. This is my first filmmaking project.
Books I'm reading:
Water for Elephants, Eat Pray Love, The Documentary Filmmaker's Handbook, Three Cups of Tea.
Films I love (or can't wait to see):
Mad Hot Ballroom, Shakespeare Behind Bars, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, Goodwill Hunting, Ordinary People. Just rented Across the Universe.
Television --the papers say its the golden age- you agree (or you don't!) because you watch.....
Lost, So You Think You Can Dance, The Daily Show with John Stewart, Dinner for Five, In Treatment on HBO.
